Frequently asked questions.

Teeth Whitening

How does teeth whitening work?

Your Mint Street dentist makes small delicate rubber mouthguards that fit your teeth precisely. Teeth whitening gel is also supplied for you to use either overnight or for a minimum of two hours during the day.

Does teeth whitening damage tooth enamel?

If done properly, teeth whitening is harmless. It is only when people buy ‘over the counter’ whitening products and use them without following the proper directions that it is dangerous and can lead to severe irritation of the teeth and gums.

We recommend that you seek our advice on professional teeth whitening treatments before making a purchase.

Inlays

What’s the difference between a filling and an inlay?

With fillings, after the cavity is drilled, the tooth-coloured filling material is applied to fill the cavity. With inlays, your Mint Street dentist measures the shape of the cavity, and the porcelain inlay is laboratory-crafted to fit that shape. In a second visit, the cavity is drilled so that the inlay can be inserted.

Crowns & Bridges

What are Crowns & Bridges

Dental crowns and bridges are relatively simple solutions for missing teeth. Made from zirconium or traditional restorative materials, these durable artificial teeth fill in gaps caused by tooth loss or decay.

Crowns are aesthetically pleasing, natural-looking shells that cover and protect damaged teeth, restoring their original shape and function. Dental bridges attach to crowns, implants, or natural teeth to hold one or more false teeth in place.

Mint Street dentists are skilled at crafting crowns and bridges appropriate to each patient’s unique needs. At our office, a mould of the mouth is taken to ensure a good fit. The crown is then created from the mould in a laboratory, and the patient wears a temporary crown for about a week until the permanent version is ready. Once the crown or bridge is in place, it can last for years.

Missing Teeth

I  have several missing teeth. What can be done?

Replacing missing teeth can radically improve a person’s smile and the shape of their face. As well as boosting self-esteem, there are important dental health benefits too.

At Mint Street Dental, we determine the best course of treatment to replace your missing teeth using crowns, bridges, dentures, or dental implants.
